Startup India (DPIIT) Registration
Get DPIIT-recognised — unlock the 3-year tax holiday, easier compliance, IP fast-tracking and government funding access.
- 3-Year Tax Holiday
- Angel Tax Relief
- 80% Patent Fee Rebate
What is Startup India (DPIIT) Registration?
Startup India recognition by DPIIT (Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade) is the government’s official startup badge. It unlocks serious benefits: income-tax exemption for 3 consecutive years under Section 80-IAC, angel-tax relief under Section 56, self-certification for labour/environment laws, 80% rebate on patent fees, fast-tracked IP processing, easier public procurement and access to the Fund of Funds.
Eligibility: a Private Limited Company, LLP or registered partnership less than 10 years old with turnover under ₹100 crore in any year, working on innovation, development or improvement of products, processes or services, or with a scalable model with high potential for employment or wealth creation.
Taxwapsi prepares a recognition application that actually gets approved — a crisp innovation write-up, supporting documents and correct sector classification — and guides you further through the separate 80-IAC tax-exemption application before the Inter-Ministerial Board.
Expert Pro Tip
DPIIT recognition and the 80-IAC tax holiday are two separate approvals — recognition is quick, but the tax exemption needs a stronger innovation case before the IMB. Draft your pitch deck and financials with 80-IAC in mind from day one.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is eligible for DPIIT recognition?
A Private Limited Company, LLP or registered partnership firm, incorporated less than 10 years ago, with turnover never exceeding ₹100 crore, working towards innovation/improvement of products, processes or services, or a scalable business model with high employment/wealth-creation potential. Entities formed by splitting an existing business are not eligible.
Is the tax holiday automatic after recognition?
No. Section 80-IAC exemption requires a separate application reviewed by the Inter-Ministerial Board. Once approved, you can choose any 3 consecutive years out of the first 10 for 100% profit deduction.
How long does DPIIT recognition take?
Straightforward applications are typically processed within 1–2 weeks. Weak innovation write-ups cause rejection or queries — our drafting maximises first-pass approval.
Does a proprietorship qualify?
No — only Pvt Ltd companies, LLPs and registered partnership firms. We can first convert your proprietorship into an eligible structure and then apply.
What is angel tax relief?
Recognised startups filing a declaration (with conditions on use of funds) are exempt from tax on share premiums above fair market value under Section 56(2)(viib) — historically a major pain point in angel rounds.
What is the government fee for recognition?
Zero — DPIIT recognition is free. Our fee is for eligibility structuring, the innovation write-up, filing and clarification handling.
How long is the recognition valid?
Until 10 years from incorporation or until turnover crosses ₹100 crore in any year — whichever is earlier.
What is the Startup India Seed Fund Scheme?
A scheme providing up to ₹20 lakh as grant for validation/prototype and up to ₹50 lakh as convertible debenture/debt via approved incubators — recognised startups under 2 years old can apply. We guide eligible clients through it.
